Embrace the value in taking the time to reflect on all the things that we have to be thankful for. Thanksgiving is a time for family to gather together and if there is one thing that it is important to be thankful for, it is our families. Unlike many other relationships, through the difficult times is when family tends to come closer together. Families know us more intimately than anyone and love us despite our faults, flaws and mistakes. If you’re lucky, like me, you may also have a friend or two that you would consider to be family. Thanksgiving is a time that we should devote to appreciating our families and more. You may find it an interesting fact that more Americans travel home for Thanksgiving than they
do for Christmas. This is a testament to the belief that the small act of spending time with your loved ones and giving thanks for their presence in your life is an important and precious thing. Thanksgiving is a time to reconnect with the family that we all have. It offers a way for the generations to come together in appreciation of each other and those that have come before us. Taking action and committing to spending that time with each other can make us all the stronger, as it is important to reconnect and learn to appreciate the gifts of knowledge, support and love that families share with each other.

I am thankful for a family that’s willing to sacrifice and do what it takes to make a difference. 2 years ago, we opened our home to a 5 week old baby girl born addicted to cocaine, heroine, opium, and benzodiazepines. She was born premature and her fragile body was plagued with medical issues. Her digestive system was severely damaged and she was death in both ears. Because of her severe medical issues CPS (Child Protective Services) was unable to find a home willing to take her in. She was being released from the hospital heading to a shelter. I’m thankful for a husband who took action when he heard her story and said we’ll take her. I’m thankful to be married to a man who took an unwanted baby and loved her as his own. I’m thankful for my three children who took turns carrying a screaming baby and held her as her body shook from drug withdraws. I’m thankful for a God I can cry out to, who was right there with us as doctors gave us little hope. I’m eternally grateful for a God who began doing miracles with her tiny body that baffled doctors and CPS case workers. I’m thankful that our family was blessed with such a beautiful gift in this baby girl, and I’m EXTRAMLY GREATFUL that on Nov 30th we will be adopting her become her forever family!
